“Mr. Eaves” was developed by Zuzana Liko at Emigre. It is considered the sans-serif counterpart to the type “Mrs. Eaves” which tends to have more of an older font style. In fact, it was created due to high demand for a font similar to Mrs. Eaves that was more modern. Mr. Eaves is based strictly on the proportions of Mrs. Eaves, so much so that they both have almost the exact same weight and armature.
Mr. Eaves differentiates itself from Mrs. Eaves through obvious differences between any modern and old style font such as the lack of serifs, less contrast, etc. Mr. Eaves also includes a smaller x height, and longer ascenders and descenders. These changes were made in order to keep the lose letter spacing that were characteristic of the original Mrs. Eaves. Other smaller changes were made, such as changes to certain letters’ tails, that further helped differentiate Mr. Eaves from Mrs. Eaves and helped it stand out as its own typeface.
